THE STATUS OF JESUS IN ISLAM

The word status is defined by Webster dictionary to mean rank or condition. This leads to the question how is Jesus Christ ranked in Islam?
One He is the miracious son of Mary. This son was given by Allah to Mary by through Angel Gabriel. This is clear in the following verses.

“And make mention of Mary in the scripture, when she had withdrawn from her people to a chamber looking east, and had chosen seclusion from them. Then we sent unto her our spirit and it assumed for her the likeness of a perfect man.
She said: Lo! I seek refuge in the beneficiary one from thee, if thou art God-fearing. He said: I am only a messenger of they Lord that I may bestow on there a faultless son.
She said: How can I have a son when no mortal hath touched me, neither have I been unchaste?
He said: so (It will be). Thy Lord saith; it is easy for me. And (It will be) that we may make of him a revelation for mankind and a mercy from us and it is a thing ordained.” (Surah 19:16-21)
It is there in the quranic verses above that Mary conceived by the power of Allah’s spirit.
Secondly Jesus is the word of Allah. Allah’s word became a human being. This is clear as one reads the following verses:

“(And remember) when the angels said: O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth thee glad tidings of a word from Him, whose name is the messiah, Jesus, son of Mary illustrious in the world and the hereafter, and one of those brought near (unto Allah)”. (Surah 3:45).

Indeed in Islam as it is in Christianity Jesus is the word of Allah and as stated above He is the spirit of Allah that was clothed in human flesh.
Thirdly Jesus in Islam has to been permitted by Allah to create. He has creative ability. This is found in the following verses:
“When Allah saith: O Jesus, son of Mary! Remember my favor unto thee and unto thy mother; how I strengthened thee with the Holy Spirit, so that thou spakest unto mankind in the cradle as immaturity; and how I taught thee the scripture and wisdom and the Torah and the Gospel; and how thou didst shape of clay as it were the likeness of a bird by my permission and thou didst heal him who was born blind and the leper by my permission; and how didst raise the dead by my permission; and how I restrained the children of Israel from (harming) thee when thou camest unto them with clear proofs, and those of them who disbelieved exclaimed. This is naught else than more magic! (Surah 5:110)
It is said in the above verse that Jesus son of Mary was the creator and a miracle worker. However, there are arguments that He did that with the permission of Allah not out of his own power. In Islam the little of creator is only given to Allah not anybody else. It should also be noted that the only person that Allah has given permission to Create is Jesus son of Mary. This permission Allah gave voluntarily. The bird that Jesus created is still part of Allah’s creation, it is not wrong to ascribe the little of the Creator to Jesus.
Jesus in Islam is also given the title of Lord or lordly in the quriah. Read the following verse carefully.
“And the Angels called to him as he stood praying in the sanctuary: Allah giveth thee glad tidings of (a son whose name is) John, (who cometh) to confirm a word from Allah, lordly, chaste, a prophet for the righteous (Surah 3:39).
That the Angels of Allah called Jesus “Lordly;” He is lord that means master or, noble. This title is also given, to Jesus Christ in Christianity. He is the Lord of Lords. He is a prophet.
In Islam again Jesus is considered to be only a human being but not God. Yes it is clear from the quarian that He is the word of Allah and Allah’s spirit helped Mary conceive, Jesus is denied divinity in Islam.
“They surely disbelieve who say: Lo! Allah is the messiah, son of Mary. The messiah (himself) said: O children of Israel worship Allah, my Lord and your Lord. Lo! Whose ascribeth partners unto Allah, for him Allah hath forbidden paradise. His abode is the fire. For evil-doers there will be no helpers. —The messiah, son of Mary, was no other than a messenger, messengers (the like of whom) had passed away before him. and his mother was a saintly woman. And they both used to eat (earthly) food. See how we make the revelations clear for them, and see how they are turned away.” (Surah 5:72-75)

Lastly Jesus in Islam He is not the saviour. The very concept of salvation by atonement is not there. The death of Jesus Christ is completely denied.
It did not occur. A person the appearance of Jesus was crucified instead. Allah took Jesus to heaven as they were heading to Golgotha. The whole world was cheated for over 500 years until Muhammad came and told the world the truth again that Jesus was not crucified. It was a person who had the same appearance as Jesus that was crucified. The people plotted and Allah plotted but Allah is the best. His plot succeeded. This raises many questions In ones mind. Read the following passage from the quarian.
“And because of their saying: we slew the messiah Jesus son of Mary, Allah’s messenger. They slow him not nor “crucified, but it appeared so unto them; and lo! Those who disagree concerning it are in doubt thereof; they have no knowledge thereof save pursuit of a conjecture; they slew him not for certain.
But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was over mighty, wise.” Surah 4:157-158.
They crucified him not; it just appeared to them as if they have crucified him. Allah is mighty wise. He took him a way from the midst of the Roman soldiers and the thronging multitudes. As if that is not enough; it took Allah over 500years to inform the Roman empire and the Jews that the one they crucified on Golgotha was not Jesus the son of Mary Allah’s word and messenger.

ADAM THE FIRST MUSLIM

The qurian has many first Muslims. This is clear when its content is studied in detail. Let the qurian speak for itself who is the first Muslim in the following verses.
“Say: shall I choose for a protecting friend other than Allah, the originator of the heavens and the earth who feedeth and is never fed? Say: I am ordered to be the first to surrender (unto Him). And be not thou (O Muhammad) of the idolaters” (Surah 6:14).
Again another verse confirms that Muhammad was commanded to be the first Muslim is.
“Say (O Muhammad): Lo! I am commanded to worship Allah, making religion pure for Him (only). And I am commanded to be the first of those who surrender (unto Him).” Surah 39:11-12.

The word Islam means submission or surrender. It is okay for one to end that Muhammad the prophet of Allah was commanded to be the first Muslim. That means that before Muhammad there was no Muslim. There was no one who had surrendered or submitted to Allah. If there is; then Muhammad is not the first Muslim. The qurian seems to be contradicting its message very fast in the following verses.
“Abraham was not a Jew, nor yet a Christian; but he was an upright man who had surrendered (to Allah), and he was not of the idolaters” (surah 3:67).
Abraham who was before Muhammad the first Muslim is also called a Muslim. Abraham as Muhammad had submitted to Allah. Islam means total submission to Allah he also submitted. Hence a Muslim is one who has totally submitted to Allah. This leads us to one question between Abraham and Muhammad who was the first Muslim. The quarian above has confirmed that Muhammad is the first Muslim. How can then Abraham be a Muslim leave alone Adam?
It is not only Abraham who lived long before Muhammad who is called a Muslim! Jesus Christ is one who surrendered to Allah (surah 5:110-111). Solomon submitted to Allah so is a Muslim (surah 27:39-33, 42, and 44). All the disciples and Abraham are called Muslims (Surah 3:52, 67, 5: 111). All believers are called Muslims of old-time (surah 22:78). Moses in the qurian claims was the first Muslim (surah 7:143) for sure who is the first Muslim? Abraham? Moses? Jesus? Muhammad? Adam? The is only one first and the lest are second.

A Biblical MODEL FOR COMMUNICATING THE GOSPEL TO Muslims

lessons 1 and 2 A Biblical MODEL FOR COMMUNICATING THE GOSPEL TO Muslims

I A) The children of Ishmael were supposed to join Israel in believing Jesus Christ

The Bible prophecies it this way.
”The nations will come to your light
And the kings to the brightness of your rising.
Lift up your eyes roundabout and see;
They gather to gather, they come to you………..
Then you will see and be radiant.
A multitude of camels will cover you.
The young camels of Midian* and Ephah
All those from Sheba will come;
They will bring gold and frankincense,
And will bear good news of the praise of the Lord.
All the flocks of Kedar* will be gathered to you.
The rams of Nabaioth* will minister to you,
They will go up with a cup to my altar,
And I shall glorify my glorious house:
Isaiah 60:4-7

*Midian is Abraham’s son by Kentural. He also was suppose to be in the fold when the redeemer comes to Zion
*Kedar and Nabaioth are Ishmael’s sons. Nabaioth was the first-born. Genesis 25:13

II.The context of Isaiah 60:1 is Isaiah 59:20

“A redeemer will come to Zion
And those who turn from transgression in Jacob declares the Lord”.
A.When the Redeemer comes to Zion, then Zion was to arise and shine and attract all descendents of Abraham to come and believe in the Redeemer by believing the gospel. Israel failed at this.

B.The Church of Jesus Christ has not failed. Arise and shine the Word of God says. Reach the Arabs and all who have followed Islam….You have not failed!!!!

C.God says they will come with their wealth. They are coming with their wealth—a multitude of support for the cause of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Lessons On World Evangelism From Jesus Christ

I.Jesus stayed with his own people—The Jews
1.Start your ministry to the Muslims in your home town.
2.If you want to go and reach Somalis, start with the Muslim and Somalis in your town.

MISSIONS IS PEOPLE NOT GEOGRAPHY OR HOW FAR YOU HAVE GONE AWAY FROM HOME
The new missionary with experience cross-culturally to unreached Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists or /Sikhs in his own hometown is far more likely to weather the challenge necessary in pioneering a ministry reaching those people overseas.

II.Jesus went to the Gentiles, but first to the Samaritans.

A.John 4:1 Here Jesus teaches us how to start a conversation which will hep you to witness to a person who has a faith almost like your own.
Verse 7 “Give Me a drink. “.The woman answered
Verse 9 “How is it that you being a Jew ask me for a drink since I am a Samarian woman?”

Jesus’ response was: “If you knew the gift of God and who it is who says to you, give me a drink, you would have asked him and He would have given you living water.”

This discussion continued wonderfully with Jesus leading it. This shows us how we can present the gospel in a friendly manner to those we consider to be the other side of the wall. This presentation of the gospel started by using water as a teaching aid of the gospel.

III.Jesus taught his disciples that Gentiles were included in the Kingdom of God.

“Jesus went away from there and withdrew into the district of Tyre and Sidon. Soon a Canaanite woman from that region came and began to cry out “Have mercy on me Lord Son of David: my daughter is cruelly demon-possessed. He answered I was sent to the lost sheep of the house of Israel” And He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.”

The Canaanite woman is also called a Syrophoenian woman in Mark 7:26 This is the first time Jesus goes outside Palestine for ministry.

Matthew 15:26-28 By ‘children” Jesus means Jews and by ‘dog’ he means gentiles.
A Gentile (goyim) is a dog to a Jew.

Jesus Christ spoke this phrase for two reasons-“It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the dogs.
1.Rephrased properly this would mean and read
i.“It is not good to share the children’s bread (the gospel and it’s benefits) and throw it to the gentiles(dogs)

2.Why would Jesus Christ Immanuel speak such a statement?
i.Jesus’ attitude was intended to test the woman’s faith.

3.Jesus knew his disciple’s attitude towards the gentiles was completely marred by Judaism. He spoke what was in the disciples hearts—a gentile is dog has not part in the children’s food. I imagine none of the disciples objected to this statement. All kept quiet because that was their position towards gentiles—dogs have no part in what was happening to them
Remember Jesus was training His disciples he wanted to act like them and then heal the Gentiles woman’s daughter to prove to the disciples that the gentiles indeed had a part in the Kingdom of God. And indeed the kingdom was for everyone.

LESSON: Here we learn how we as Christian leaders should not build walls by telling the Muslims not to read our Bible and preach from it. Sometimes we have ignored Muslims when they ask questions which are genuine and need to be answered.

Mostly we have ministered to Muslims using our flesh—“Don’t touch our Bible, use your Quran. This book is only meant for Christians and not you Muslims
The Bible is God’s Word and is for all the world to read.
The Sword of the Spirit is used in convincing non-believers
Don’t build walls. The Bible’s message is not only meant for us. It is meant for all, even the Muslims, Hindus, Buddhists, Sikhs, etc.

Don’t forget Matthew 28:19-20 Jesus Christ says His message is for the whole world including Muslims.

B
Lesson 2
A LESSON FROM PAUL ABOUT EVERNGILISM

I.Paul used his skill as a tent-maker to help minister to those who he worked with.
1.Priscilla and Aquila
1.Minister to those you work with.

II.Paul started reaching the Corinthians through their religion.
1.First he reached out to the Jews of Corinth

1. Luke 18:4 Every Sabbath Paul reasoned with the Jews and Greeks in the synagogue

2.Paul used the old religion of Judaism to build a bridge to tell them something better.
3.Paul used the religion to take him as far as he could go.
4.Paul did not believe that because there were errors in a religion that he needed to completely reject that religion. Paul used this religion as a bridge to get their attention and to give him an opportunity to explain the truths of the gospel.
5.Paul pointed to the superiority of what Jesus Christ has done but not in an arrogant and abusive way.
6.In the synagogue Paul presented Jesus using the Old Testament scriptures
7.Not only did Paul Judaism as a bridge. He even utilized the pagan religion to some extent as a bridge to introducing people to Christianity. This happened in Athens.
a. Paul was invited to speak by some Greek philosophers.
b. Paul did not refuse this invitation to preach even though the philosophers believed something different from what he believed?

c.Paul complemented them on being religious saying:
“Men of Athens! I see that in every way you are very religious. For as I walked around and looked carefully at your objects of worship, I even found an altar with this inscription, “To an Unknown God”. Now why worship something unknown?” I am going to proclaim to you. (Acts 17:22-23)

Paul quoted one of their books to introduce his message Acts 17:28

Paul’s view of other religions was that they were useful in introducing Christianity, especially in the beginning. The differences could be sorted later

Rules which we learn from Paul when witnessing to people of another religion:
1.We should show respect for their religion.
2.Build relations with those who practice other religions.
3.Use objects of their religion to point them to Jesus
4.Finding common ground in their religion and a new faith in Jesus Christ

From a study of Paul’s approach to Judaism and the philosophies of Athens we can learn the following:
1.We should learn something about the local religion in the region we are working in.
a.Most of us live in towns where Islam is quite prominent. Learn about Islam. God will use what you know as a bridge to reach somebody for Jesus.
2.We should be respectful and careful about provocative statements.
a.The best way to reach some one for Christ is to NOT abuse his beliefs, especially about his god.
3.We should look for opportunities to relate with people of other religions.
a.You can never introduce a person to Jesus without first building some kind of relationship with them.
b.
Now let us apply what we have learned from Paul’s way of ministry to this course—of evangelizing the Muslims:
1.You do not have to be in full time ministry to reach Muslims. You can use your own business or trade or employment to reach many for Jesus Christ.
2.Live among the people you want to reach.
3.Use the religion of the group you are trying to reach as a bridge to introducing them to the TRUTH of Jesus Christ
4.Learn as much as you can about their religion. This knowledge will be useful in reaching the lost……………..especially Muslim
5.Love the people that God gave His only begotten Son to save.

Lesson 3
An Introduction to the Life of Muhammad
I.Muhammad’s early life
a.Born around 570AD
b.Raised by relatives after age 6
c.During his youth he came into contact with Christians of various denominations
i.Started believing in one god instead of the polytheism of his _______ (page 12 0f Jeremiah’s notes) tribe.
II.Early Adulthood
a.At 25 years old he married a rich widow named Khadija
i.Was married to her for 25 years until she died
ii.They had 5-6 children
1.Only one child, Falima, survived longer than Muhammad
III.Spiritual experience at age 40 when Muhammad meditated on the coming judgment day, and hell. Tradition says that after several days in a cave near Mt. Hira and Mecca, he saw an angelic vision that compelled him to __________ a revolution.

THE LIFE OF MUHAMMAD
Read the following excerpts from the dictionary of Islam.

‘Ayishah relates : “The first revelations which the Prophet of God received were in true dreams. He never dreamed but it came to pass as regularly as the dawn of day. After this the Prophet went into retirement, and he used to seclude himself in a cave in Mount Hira’, and worship there day and night. He would, whenever he wished, return to his family at Makkah, and then go back again, taking with him the necessaries of life. Thus he continued to return to Khadijah from time to thee, until one day the revelavalation

371
came down to him, and the angel (Malak) came to him and said,’ Read (iqra); but the Prophet said, ‘I am not a reader. And the Prophet related that the angel took hold of him, and squeezed him as much as he could bear, and then said again, ‘Read’: and the Prophet said, I am not a reader.’ Then the angel took hold of him a second time, and squeezed him as much as he could hear, and then let him go, and said, ‘Read’ then the Prophet said, ‘I am not a reader.’ Then the angel again seized the Prophet, and squeezed him, and said:-
‘Read thou, in the name of thy Lord who Created;-
‘Created man out of clots of blood:—
‘Read thou! For thy Lord is the most Beneficent,
‘Who hath taught the use of the pen:-
‘Hath taught man that which he knoweth not.’
(See Qur’an, Suratu ‘l-’Alaq (xcvi.), the first five verses.)
Then the Prophet repeated the words with a trembling heart. And he returned (i.e. from Hira to Makkah) to Khadijah., and said, ‘Wrap me up, wrap me up. And they wrapped him up in a garment until his fear was dispelled ; and he told Khadijah what had occurred. and he said to Khadijah, ‘I was afraid I should die.’ Then Khadijah said, No, it. will not be so, I swear by God. He will never make thee melancholy or sad. For you are kind to your relatives, you speak the truth, you are faithful in trust, you bear the afflictions of the people, you spend in good works what you gain in trade, you are hospitable, and you assist your fellow men.’ After this Khadijah took the Prophet to Waraqah, who was the son of her uncle, and said to him, ‘O son of my uncle, hear what your brother’s son says to you.’ Then Waraqah said to the Prophet, ‘O son of my uncle, what do you see?’ Then the Prophet told Waraqah what he had seen; and Waraqah said,’ This mum the Namus [NAMUS] which God sent to Moses. O would to God I were young in this time! and would to God I were living at the time of your people turning you not! The Prophet said, ‘Will my people turn me out?’ And Waraqah said. ‘Yes. No man has ever come as you have come, and not been held in enmity; but if I should live to that day, I will give you great help.’ Waraqah soon died, and after that the revelation ceased (i.e. for a time).”
The first vision was followed by a considerable period, during which no further revelations was given, and during which Muhammad suffered much mental depression [FITRAH.]
“During this period,” al-Bukhari says, “the Prophet w as very sorrowful, so much so that he wished to throw himself from the top of a hill to destroy himself.”
But after a lapse of time, as he was wrapped up in his garments and lay stretched upon his carpet, the angel is -said to have again addressed him, in the chapter which begins (Surah lxxiv.)—
“O thou enwrapped in thy mantle.
Arise and preach!
Muhammad then believed himself to be a commissioned Apostle, the messenger and the prophet of God, sent to reclaim a fallen people to the knowledge and service of their God. His revelations were God’s Book, and his sayings the utterances of inspiration.
The first convert to Islam was his faithfaj wife Khadijah, the two next, ‘Ali and Zaid, his adopted children, and afterwards his old trusted friend, Abu Bakr, “the True.” Then followed ‘Usman, who was a grandson of Abdu ‘l-Muttalib; Talhah, the renowned warrior of after days; and ‘Abdu ‘r-Rahman, a merchant of some consequence. The new converts soon numbered some fifty souls, either members of the Prophet’s family or his dearest friends.
About this time a strange episode occurred, in which Muhammad sought a compromise with his people, by admitting their gods into his system as intercessors with the Supreme Being. While the Quraish sat beneath the Ka’bah, he recited the following Surah as an inspired message (liii.):-
“And see ye not Lat and ‘Uzza,
And Marat the third besides?

372
These are exalted females.
And verily their intercession is to be hoped for.”
The idolaters were reconciled, and bowed before the God of Muhammad. But his heart smote him, and not long after the obnoxious lines (those in italics) were said to be recalled by Gabriel, as suggested by the Evil One, and there was substituted the uncompromising denunciation of idolatry, from which he never after swerved:-
“What! shall there be male progeny unto you, and females unto him?
“That indeed were an unjust partition.
“They are naught bet names which ye and your fathers have invented.”
Muhammad married his cousin Zainab. The Prophet had previously given her in marriage to Zaid ibn Harisah, his freed maim and adopted son. But upon visiting the house of Zaid, and not finding him at home, the Prophet accidentally cast his eyes on Zainab, and was so smitten with her beauty, that he claimed, “Praise belongeth unto God, who turneth the hearts of men even as He will,” Zainab saw that she had made an impression on the Prophet’s heart, and when her husband returned, recounted the circumstances to him. Zaid determined to part with her in favour of his friend and benefactor, and offered to divorce her. But the relations of the Arabs to their adopted children were so strict, that nothing but a revelation from heaven could settle the difficulty. It was to meet this domestic emergency that the Prophet produced the following verses of the Qur’an, Surah xxxiii, 36—38, to sanction his own heart’s desire:—
“And it is not for a believer, man or woman, to have any choice in their affairs, when God and His Apostle have decreed a matter: and whoever disobeyeth God and His Apostle, emreth with palpable error. And, remember, when thou saidst to him unto whom God had shown favour, and to whom thou also hadst shown favour, ‘Keep thy wife to thyself, and fear God;’ and thou didst hide in thy mind what God would bring to light. and thou didst fear man; but more right had it been to fear God. And when Zaid had settled concerning her to divorce her, we married her to thee, that it might be a crime in the faithful to marry the wives of their adopted sons, when they have settled the affair concerning them. And the behest of God is to be performed. No blame attacheth to the Prophet where God hath given him a permission. Such was the way of God with those prophets who flourished before thee.”
The scandal of the marriage was removed by the pretended revelation, and according to the Traditions, Zainab used to vaunt herself as the one wife of the Prophet’s harim who had been given in marriage by God Himself. At all events, she exchanged a husband who had a pug nose and was short and ill-favoured for one who was the leading chief of Arabia!
MUHAMMAD, The Wives of.
Arabic al-azwaju ‘l-mutahharat e. “The pure wives.” According to the Traditions, Muhammad took to himself eleven lawful wives, and two concubines. (See Majmatu ‘l-Bihar, p. 528.)
(1) Khadijah a Quraish lady, the daughter of Khuwailid ibn Asad. She was a rich widow lady, who had been twice married. She was married to Muhammad when he was 25 years old, and the was 40 years, and remained his only wife for twenty-five years, until she died (A.D. 619), aged 65, Muhammad being 60 years old. She bore Muhammad two sons, al-Qasim and ‘Abdu ‘llah, surnamed at-Tahir and at-Taiyib, and four daughters, Zainab, Ruqaiyah, Fatimah, and Ummu Kulsum. Of these children, only Fatimah (the wife of ‘Aus survived Muhammad.
(2) Saudahughter of Zama’ah the widown of as-Sakran, a Quraish and one of the Companions). Married about two months after the death of Khadijab.
(3) ‘Ayishah the ,daughter of Abu Bakr. She was betrothed when she was only 7 years old, and was married at 10, about the ninth month alter the flight to al-Madinah.
(4) Juwairiyah a widow, the daughter of al-Haris ibn Abi Zirar, the chief of the Banu Mustaliq. Muhammad ransomed her from a citizen who had fixed her ransom at nine ounces of gold. It is related that ‘Ayishah said, ” No woman was ever a greater blessing to her people than this Juwairiyah.”
(5) Hafsah the daughter of ‘Umar. She was the widow of Khunais, an early convert to Islam. Muhammad married her shout six months after her former husband’s death.
(6) Zainab, the daughter of Khuzaimahthe widow of Muhammad’s cousin ‘Ubiudab, who was killed at the battle of Badr. She was called the “Mother of the Poor,” Ummu ‘l-Masukin, on account of her care of destitute converts. She died before Muhammad.
(7) Ummu Salimah the widow of Abu Salimah, one of the Refugees, who was wounded at the battle of Uhud, and afterwards died of his wounds.
(8) Zainab the daughter of Jabsh wife of Muhammad’s adopted aon Zaid. Zaid divorced her to please the Prophet. She was (being the wife of an adopted son) unlawful to him, but Surah xxxiii. 36 was produced to settle the difficulty.
(9) Safi yah , daughter of Hayi ibn Akhtab, the widow of Kinanah. the Khaibar chief, who was cruelly put to death. It was said that Muhammad wished to divorce her, but she begged that her turn might be given to ‘Ayishah.
(10) Ummu Habibah, the daughter at Abu Sufyan and the widow of ‘Ubaidu’llah, one of the “Four Enquirers,” who, after emigrating so a Muslim to Abyssinia, had embraced Christianity there, and died in. the profession of that faith.
(11) Maimunah the daughter of al-Haris and widowed kinswoman of Muhammad, and the sister-in-law of al-’Abbas. She is said to have been 51 years of age when she married Muhammad.
Muhammad’s concubincs were:-
(1) Mary the Copt A Christian slave-girl sent to Muhammad by al-Muqauqis, the Roman Governor in Egypt. She became the mother of a son by Muhammad, named Ibrahim, who died young.
(2) Rihanah a Jewess, whose husband had perished in the massacre of the Banu Qaraizah. She declined the summons to conversion, and continued a Jew; but it said she embraced Islam before her death.

Lesson 4
The Basics beliefs of Islam
I.Why is it important to know the basic beliefs and pillars of Islam?
a.You will know how to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with them.
b.You can use their beliefs as a bridge to reach them.

Basic beliefs of Islam
1)God’s prophets
A.God sent his prophets to the nations to teach them His ways.
B.Great prophets of Islam listed in order of their importance
1.Muhammad-the final and greatest prophet
2.Jesus Christ-second greatest
3.Adam
4.Noah
5.Abraham
6.Moses\
It is believed in Islam that each of these prophets was given a book which contained God’s word.
2)The resurrection and judgment
A.When the trumpet shall sound the dead will raise and be judged for their sins
B.Muslims believe in paradise, hell
1.They do not know where they will go until Judgment Day
a.Even Mohammad did not know.
b.Only Jihadists have direct entrance into paradise
c.God reserves the absolute right to send people to whichever place He wishes.
3)Tawhid – the Oness of God
a)Islam is a monotheistic religion
b)Islam rejects the belief in the trinity
4)The Books of god according to the Muslims
A.Muslims believe that God has spoken to his prophets and given them books of prophecies
1.Moses—Torat
2.Abraham—Shufur
3.David—Zabur (the Psalms of David)
4.Jesus Christ—Injil
5.Mohammad—Qur’an
5)Angels—Muslims believe that God created angels who are sinless.
PILLARS OF ISLAM
The Primary Obligations of Islam Followers
1.Shahada – “There is no god but god and Mohammad is the apostle of god”.
a.This is the confession of a Muslim.
i.Every Muslim must believe this.
2.Salat—the ritual prayer spoken 5 times a day while in the correct posture and facing towards Mecca.
a.All Muslims are expected to perform these prayers every day.
3.Zakat—obligatory alms giving.
a.All Muslims are expected to give a percentage of their possessions away every year as a constant reminder that there are those in the world who are worse off than they are.
4.The Fast of the month of Ramadhan “Saum”
a.Muslims do not to abstain from eating, drinking, smoking, sexual contact and anger from sunrise to sunset during this month.
b.The faithful are encouraged to use this month of fasting to draw closer to god and renew their spiritual strength.

Lesson 6
Using Muslim Beliefs to Reach Muslims
I.Muslims believe that the Torah is the inspired Word of God that came through Moses.
a.Also use the Psalms and the Injil together.
II.The Muslim beliefs in the resurrection and Judgment Day can help him understand the gospel concept of judgment.
a.For example: Compare the Qur’an’s teaching of judgment with the Bible’s teaching of judgment.
III.Our greatest purpose of believers in Jesus Christ is to lead people to Him—believe in Him and make Him Lord of their life.
a. The Qur’an states that Jesus had to die; although it does not clearly state that He died to pay for our sins…
i.This can be used to move from the Qur’an to the Bible to show why it was necessary for Jesus to die.
I.When Adam and Eve disobeyed God by eating the forbidden fruit, they ran away from their loving Creator. They were naked (Genesis 3:7) and God provided coats of animal skins to cover their nakedness. These skins were provided free from a loving God. This is a typology of righteousness provided by God (Surah 7:26) Most Islamic scholars as well as Christian scholars agree that by God providing the coats of skins, He was providing righteousness. Thus Surah 7:26 can be used to show that salvation is free.
II.The Isa ibn Maryamu teaching about Jesus Christ in the Qur’an can be used in sharing the gospel
a.Jesus is God incarnate
i.Surah 19:19 Jesus Christ is a son bestowed on Mary by Allah through Angel Gabriel.
b.Whose son is Jesus Christ?
i.Suruh 3:45 “O Mary! Lo! Allah giveth the glad tidings of a word from him. Whose name is Messiah Jesus, the son of Mary?”
ii.John 1:4 “In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.”
iii.Who is the Word?
.

Common Arguments/ Challenges that Muslims Present to Christians
I.Lesson 7
II.How to Handle Islam’s Objection to the Gospel of Jesus Christ
III.The Bible is a corrupt book that cannot be depended on for guidance in religious life or doctrine.
A.The Muslims allege that there is no original manuscript of our Bible. The one we have has been corrupted and changed completely from what the original Bible manuscripts say. They quote verses from the Bible itself that seem to contradict each other
IV.EXAMPLE: Jeremiah 8:8 “How can we say we are wise and the law of the Lord is with us? But behold the lying pen of the scribes have made it into a lie.
a)You will hear this scripture quoted often by Muslims. They argue how can you believe what has been made a lie?
V.Christianity is a polytheism religion, worshipping three gods.
A.Muslims quote the Bible to prove that there is only one god who should be worshipped.
1.Hear oh Israel the Lord is one. Deuteronomy 6:4

B.When we teach about the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, to the Muslim we are saying that there are three gods- not just One in Three.
1.The word Trinity does not appear anywhere in scripture.

a.Matthew 22:42 What do think about the Christ? Whose son is He? They said to Him, “the son of David. The He said to them, “Then how does David call Him Lord saying: The Lord said to my Lord, sit at my right hand until I put your enemies under your feet.
VI.Bible verses contradict each other
A.Mark 15:25 “It was the third hour when they crucified Him.”

1.Isaiah 19:14 “ Now it was the day of preparation for the Passover. It was about the sixth hour. And he said to the Jews “Behold, your king!”

In the public lectures of the Muslim preachers in Kenya, you can near them using these scriptures to prove that the Bible text is not accurate, and that it contradicts itself. They ask this question:
At exactly what hour was Christ crucified? The third hour or later in the day?
How do you handle this challenge?
VII.Jesus Christ is not a son of God but just another prophet.
A.Jesus Christ did not die on a cross. God helped Him out of the ordeal. God let another person die in His place.

1.This allegation is surprising to most Christians because in their Qur’an it says that someone else died instead of Jesus so they believe their book of scripture, even though the Bible very plainly says that Jesus died, was buried and resurrected the third day _______________________

2.Syran 4:154-158 “And because of their saying We slew the messiah Jesus Christ, Son of Mary, Allah’s messenger- They slew Him not crucified Him. It appears to them that crucified him but they did not.”
But Allah took him up to himself.
1.“And because of their saying” , who are “their” referring to. The Jews? Where in the Bible do the Jews call Jesus their messiah?
a.Is the Qur’an telling us the truth?
2.“It appeared unto them.” But was it really Jesus or just appear to be Jesus? This is what Muslims base their argument on.
NOTE-Christ Jesus died in AD 31 and Muhammad became a prophet 597 years later in 610AD. All these years God kept us in ignorance believing a lie that Jesus did not die.

VIII.Muslims believe that since Paul was not among the twelve disciples he had no authority to speak or write Christian doctrine.

IX.Muslims believe that Paul calls himself “foolish, boastful and insane” (2 Corinthians 11:16-23) so why would anyone pay attention to what her wrote
A.So how do you handle these arguments?

1.1 Corinthians 9:19-23

a.Paul states that he became all things to all people. Muslims ask if you will become a robber to win a robber to Jesus.
b.Isn’t this contrary to God’s law
c.Muslims do not understand this text because Paul is using this as an illustration that he adapted to Gentile customs in order to gain their confidence and be able to share Jesus with them.

PAUL MOHAMMAD
THERE WILL B MORE IFOMATION ON THE PAUL MUHAMMMAD COMPARISON.

NOTE: It is not our work to argue and debate. Our work is to present the Gospel of Jesus Christ. If a Muslim is really bothered with your message, the best thing is to give him literature which clearly presents the gospel. Not fight with him. Pray and let the Holy Spirit do His work.
